1. General conditions
The competition is for performers divided into four age groups as follows:
- First group: 7-10 years of age;
Instruments to be used in First group: flute, block flute, piccolo flute.
- Second group: 11-13 years of age;
- Third group: 14-18 years of age;
- Fourth group: 19-28 years of age.
2. Registration
IMPORTANT NOTICE! We would like to inform you, that we are following the epidemiological Covid-19 situation in the world and in the country and will give a notify all participants, including their companions, in case there are additional requirements regarding the participation in the competition.

In order to register for the competition, you need to send us following documents:
- filled online application form http://www.ema.foundation/apply/
- proof of transfer of the participation fee;
- for all non-European applicants – a copy of the passport of the participant and all accompanying people.
All documents listed above must be sent to the email address of the European Music Academy Foundation

3. Repertoire
All mandatory pieces of the Bulgarian composers must be performed with original notes, which could
be purchased on the homepage of the foundation – www.ema.foundation/notes
The European Music Academy Foundation possesses the copy rights for those pieces and their distribution.

- First group: 7-10 years of age:
Instruments to be used in this group: flute, block flute, piccolo flute.
Рieces of choice with different character with a duration NOT LONGER THAN 10 minutes.
OPTIONAL only: Filip Pavlov - piece for flute and piano "Contemplation" (Price: 6 €) - If you want to fight fot the Special Composer's Award

- Second group: 11-13 years of age: up to 15 min.
o G.F.Haendel - Sonate /by choice / I-st and II-nd movement or III and IV movement
o Piece - the candidate's choice from the Romantic era up to our days
o One of the following pieces by Bulgarian composer:
* prof. Filip Pavlov – only part/piece 1 from „3 Pieces for flute and pianо“ (Price for all three pieces: 8 €);
* Dimitar Kostanzaliev – „Songs without words“, please choose any three out of the nine parts (Price: 6 €).
* Every contestant is allowed to choose and play one Bulgarian piece for a higher age group.

- Third group: 14-18 years of age:
o The first movement concerto chosen from:
- C. Stamitz - Concerto op. 29 in G dur;
- J. Quantz- Concerto in G dur;
- G.B. Pergolesi - Concerto in Gdur.
o One of the following pieces by Bulgarian composer:
- Filip Pavlov - ''Humoresque'' - flute/piano (Price: 8 €).
o One of the following pieces:
- C. Reinecke – “Ballade” op.288 for flute and piano;
- P. Taffanel – “Andante Pastoral et Scherzettino” for flute and piano;
- W. Popp - “Hungarian rhapsody” op.385 for flute and piano;
- P. Morlacchi - “Il Pastore Svizzero” for flute and piano.
* Every contestant is allowed to choose and play one Bulgarian piece for a higher age group.

- Fourth group: 19-28 years of age:
Round I (Solo)
o Baroque piece chosen from:
- J.S.Bach - Partita a moll “Sarabande” and “Courante”;
- G.Ph. Telemann -“Fantasie” № 2 – 12 (only one);
o One of the following pieces:
- Sigfrid Karg - Elert: Chaconne op.107 No 30;
- Eugene Bozza - “Image”.

Round II - up to 30 min.
o W.A.Mozart - Flute concerto No 1 in G Dur K.313 I. movement /Allegro maestoso/ with cadence
OR
W.A.Mozart – Flute Concerto No 2 in D Dur, K.314 I. Movement /Allegro aperto/ with Caddence

o One of the following pieces:
- T. Boehm -“Grand Polonaise” for flute and piano;
- A.Jolivet – ‘’Chant de Linos’’ for flute and piano;
- A.Casella - "Sicilienne et burlesque" for flute and piano;
- H.Dutilleux - "Sonatine" for flute and piano;
- F. Borne – “Fantasie brillante sur Carmen” for flute and piano;
- G. Hue – “Fantasie” for flute and piano.
- Piece - by candidate's choice.
o One of the following pieces by Bulgarian composer:
- Martin Georgiev – Suite in “Baroque” style for flute and piano – please choose two parts. It is mandatory to include one of the following - No 4 Sarabande ,No 5
Gigue or No 6 Postlude. (Price for the whole package: 8 €). The motto is not the separate movement./. It is possible to use a piccolo or recorder if the candidate would prefer;
- Marin Valchanov – „Fantasy“ (Price: 8 €).

4. Programme of the competition, jury, awards
- The order of performance of all participants will be alphabetical.
- The first day of the competition starts at 10:00 h with the first round of group IV.
- Participants who do not appear in the prescribed order will be disqualified.
- Playing with original notes is mandatory for all Bulgarian pieces.
- The participants will be evaluated by a jury with chairman Prof. Filip Pavlov (Bulgaria) and members prof. Vladimiriv Kudrya (Russia), prof. Nicola Mazzanti (Italy) and prof. Emanuele Cacciatore (Italy).
- The prizes given by the jury will be based on the performance of participants during the competition.
- It is possible to participate in a higher group (by request of the applicant), but only if no group is skipped.
- All first prize winners are allowed to participate again in the same group.
- IMPORTANT! In regard of the Bulgarian pieces in the program of the competition - participants are allowed to perform pieces assigned to a higher group than theirs.
- The members of the jury are not allowed to vote on the performances of their own students.
- The jury's decisions are final and indisputable.
- In regards to the Covid-19 epidemic situation worldwide, THE ORGANIZER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE JURY.
There will be three prizes in each category:

First group:
- First prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, subject prize.
- Second prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, subject prize.
- Third prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, subject prize.
- special price – for the performance of a Bulgarian piece.

Second group
- First prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 150 €;
- Second prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 100 €;
- Third prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 50 €.
Third group:
- First prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 200 €;
- Second prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 150 €;
- Third prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 100 €.
Fourth group:
- First prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 500 €;
- Second prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 200 €;
- Third prize - Laureate diploma, the Award of the European Music Academy, 150 €.
The organizer reserves the right to give other prizes - cash and/or subject prizes. These awards will be given by the jury which has to comply with the sponsors’ wishes if there are such. The jury may not give all the prizes.
- Jury awards - each member of the jury will award one participant of their choice with a three-
day course in the conservatory where they teach (all of travel and accommodation costs have
to be covered by the participant)
- The award of the Union of Bulgarian Composers will be awarded for the performance of a Bulgarian piece.
- A special prize from the Mayor of Varna.
- Prizes from the Embassies of Austria and France in Bulgaria - concert performance at the Embassies' halls.
NOTE: EMA Foundation is not responsible for organising and managing prizes given by its partners, sponsors or other third party organisations.

5. Participation fees and accommodation.
The participation fees for each group will be as follows:
- First group: 45 €;
- Second group: 50 €;
- Third group: 55 €;
- Fourth group: 60 €
For accompanist (pre-ordered through the application form) participants pay additional fees as follows:
- 30 minutes - 10 €;
- competitive implementation - 16 €;
Rehearsals are paid in advance in Varna!
All travel, accommodation and food costs are at the expense of the participants
individually.
Accommodation option:
Hotel "VMK" (2 stars) is a partner of the EMA Foundation and offers accommodation to participants with the opportunity for rehearsals in the rooms. You can book one by only indicating that you want accommodation in the application form! Marking accommodation in a hotel in the application form is considered a reservation! It is paid locally in Varna or by a bank transfer.
- Price per bed in a double room – 15 € per night.
The accommodation offers meals for extra cost.
For the comfort of all participants, all rehearsals will be held in specially provided halls in the hotel.
All participants who are accommodated elsewhere, will have to take care of their transportation to the hotel and keep track of the rehearsal schedule. The organizer does NOT provide rooms for individual rehearsals for participants accommodated elsewhere.
The rehearsal schedule will be available at the hotel lobby and uploaded on the foundation’s Facebook page.
The participation fee is to be paid in advance via bank transfer: a proof of payment must be added to
the registration documents.

6. Final regulations
Each participant must organize an accompanist, unless they have requested one.
It is recommended to know part of the performed pieces by heart.
One week before the start of the competition the organizer will publish the names of the participants and the rehearsal schedule.
Participation in the competition implies recognition of the above mentioned rules.
The organizer keeps the right to make changes regarding the conduction of the event.
The organizer keeps the right to make changes in the schedule and the order of play in following cases:
- when a participants performs in two groups;
- when an applicant has had a flight change and has less than 15 hours for some rest and rehearsal
before appearing on stage.
When submitting the application form, each participant over the age of 18 and the parents of the
participants under the age of 18 agree to:
- give their consent that photos and videos made during the competition and the final concert are posted on the internet and other media and used from EMA for marketing purposes;
- let the EMA Foundation store, manage and use their provided personal data for the purposes of the competition.
- comply with the rules of the organizer.
!!! The organizer keeps the right to make changes in the rules of the competition, as well as changing the deadline for sending the application form regarding the good organization and the comfort of all participants for the whole event.
Application forms that include incorrect, incomplete or wrong information, will not be considered as submitted.
The Bulgarian pieces, included in the mandatory program of the competition, must be played with original notes, purchased from the organizer. Otherwise, the participants won’t be permitted to
perform.
The notes can be ordered via the EMA Foundation (please find the bank details above). Please send the proof of payment via e-mail at emavarna2015@gmail.com. Once the transfer has been received, each applicant will receive a reply with the pdf-notes. Originals will be received upon arrival in Varna in order to avoid high delivery costs.
